Facing the Reflections in Mirror: An Intersectional Analysis of how Race, Language, and Class impact Teaching in Heterogeneous Latinx, Southeast Asian, Syrian, and Indigenous Contexts

This professional development event problematizes current essentialized discourses surrounding K-12 and higher education responses to the anti-racist movement, the critical language studies and language revitalization movements, and the critical bilingual education and dual language immersion movements in the United States. Exploring one teacher educator’s evolution of identity as she works with immigrant and refugee students from Mexico, Central America, South America, Southeast Asia, and Syria, this professional development explores the rigors of the inner work that must precede highly effective anti-racist language advocacy work in heterogeneous K-12 and higher education classrooms.
